Ground Lift Switch

    I have an XLR out on the back of my amp and it has a Ground/Lift switch. Can someone explain what this switch does when I send a mic cable directly to the PA?

Having more than one grounding (earthing) point can generate hum, which is caused by currents in the ground (now looped, having more than one grounding point) getting into the input stages of the amp or PA system. The ground-lift is a switch which switches off the ground, and so eliminates the loop, and thus elimates the hum...
