Grounding trouble

So I'm installing CTS pots and a '62 Original PU in my MIK Squier P-Bass, and I'm having a hell of a time getting it to ground properly. I've checked numerous wiring diagrams, and I've got it wired properly, I just can't get it to ground right. I've tried soldering the ground wire to the tone pot, the volume pot, as well as wiring to the jack, and also wiring both to the jack, in addition to a wire from the volume pot to a pickguard screw (using one of those little grommet-looking things). I STILL get a click when you touch the strings, and some buzzing, no matter what grounding configuration. HELP!
