Congrats on picking up the bass!

First off, it really matters what kinda music your shooting for, diffrent types of basses have diffrent sounds, diffrent pick ups have diffrent sounds.....strings, pick/finger style.

As for is it gig worthy? anything dependable is gig worthy, i giged with a Epiphone P bass clone for over a year.

Mid range basses? for under 600 if check out Dean Q4 and Q5 basses ( i own one, and love it! ), japan made fender basses, Lakland skylines, G&L Tributes ( my top pick! ).

Also theres plenty in the used market!

feel free to PM or email me at zfield@sonic.net with any questions you got, and ill try to give ya some help
