My friend has a really old Guild bass. It has the same general shape of Epiphone Sheraton. It looks like its worth a lot but im in no way a specialist on vintage basses. Can anyone make a guess at what kind of bass it is and how much its worth.
    Thanx

I believe that your bass is Guild Starfire Bass.
You didn't say which type is it. For example:
The 60's Starfire basses came in three main variation:
1965 Starfire Bass I which had a "Black Window" single coil PU near the bridge and 2 large wooden finger and thumb rests near the neck. 1 volume and 1 tone knobs. Also, some time you can find it with an additional tone switch for adding brightness.
A late 60's Starfire Bass I (from about 1967) had the same features but the PU is near the neck and the finger and thumb rests are near the bridge.
Starfire Bass II from about 1966 had 2 "Black Window" Single coil PU. volume and tone for each PU. No tone switch and finger and thumb rests.
Later 70's Starfire Basses had chrome covered humbuckers which gave murkier sound. The I model was discontinued int the late 60's or early 70's. The II model was discontinued in the mid 70's I believe and reintroduced in 1998 in an updated version

Right you are! I entered Guild's site thru the Fender site and couldn't find the bass until going thru the online catalog link. $2299.99 list price.
