How much would it cost for me to get pickups put in my jazz bass. I saying that I would have already bought the pickups and I just need a guy to put them in for me.

  2. guitar center doesn't do that from my knowledge.
but usually techs will do it for like 40 bucks.

I would love to learn...where do you suggest I start?

I have read instructions on the DiMarzio website and it doesn't seem too difficult, I should really brush up on the vocabulary though. I am just worried about screwing up my bass and/or the pickups.

  4. i just did my own p-pickups, and it was a breeze, the only tricky part is soldering the wires together but that's not even that hard

I would most likely be installing Dimarzio Ultra Jazz....I think I will try it myself, I can always call if I need help

Is there a particular kind of solder that is better than others? I'm going to experiment with a new PU soon as well.

60%/40% (?) tin/silver solder with rosin core made for electronics.

DO NOT GET ACID CORE SOLDER, it will mess everything up.

Use a 25 watt soldering pencil (in that power range anyway). Keep a damp sponge handy to clean the tip with.

Wear Safety Glasses!!!! solder can spatter and you don't want to get molten metal in your eyes!!!!

Don't put the soldering iron on the synthetic carpet and step on it...I did that at a guitar shop once and felt really dumb...it didn't smell too good either:(
