Guitar pickup in neck position

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Journey55, Oct 11, 2013.

  1. Anyone try putting a telecaster or like a guitar humbucker near the neck on a jazz bass? Or like between the bridge pickup and the bridge (I've got two humbuckers lying around and I figured it might be neat)

You'd be better off adding a series/parallel switch to your bass, imo.

  3. I've been thinking about it (like maybe a push-pull master tone) but I was just wondering if anyone tried adding guitar pickups on a bass

I added a GFS Little Killer at the neck of my short Jazz. I wired the original J pickups in series, so the controls are V(neck) V(series pair) T. The neck alone gives me an almost Hofner tone, like a standard Jazz with a headcold, and the full-up combo sounds nice and full. I do trip over the new pickup with a finger when I forget it's there, but that's happening less and less.
