I just bought a set of the 5 string (bass) elixirs and want to have all 7 strings elixir.

The guitar strings I have are the right guage, but the length is in question.

On the guitar strings, most of the string is wound and then the top four inches is just wire. Sorta like this:

    (wound part) (wire)

Can I use the wire part to go around the tuning pegs? Will I be able to tune the string like a normal bass string? I am afraid that it will somehow stretch the wound part of the string.

Just want to know before I go waste $50 on a couple sets of elixirs.

as long as the wound part goes through the nut you should be fine.

also, something that you may need to be aware of is that the ball ends on guitar strings are smaller than those on bass strings. the ball end on those guitar strings might be too small to catch in your bridge.

what can i say, guitarists have small balls.

    on their strings. :D
