Hello TB community, Can anyone name musicians who are first and foremost guitarists (lead or rhythm) but who are also accomplished bassists on the side or when needed? I know that Sir Paul started on guitar but switched to bass once the Beatles took off. I also know that Walter Becker alternates between both. And don't get me started on Keith Richards. In this age of the multi-instrumentalist it's really hard to distinguish who really plays what. All replies greatly appreciated.
Altough not accomplished, celebretad or famous: I am, and so are the other folks at the switch hitters club. Check them out if you're interested.
Mikael Ã…kerfeldt wrote some pretty awesome bass lines! The guitarists in Hope For The Dying recorded all the bass parts to their songs. I read somewhere that Hendrix recorded a lot of the baselines in his music.
Shane Embury, the bass player from Napalm Death also plays guitar in Venomous Concept and occasionally in Brujeria. Jon Leon of White Wizzard plays a lot of the guitar tracks in their new CD. I remember James Hetfield saying that Cliff Burton was working on playing guitar before he died and wasn't half bad. This information will be flamed I'm sure.
I'm pretty sure Andy Bell played guitar in Ride and was then the bassist in one of the later iterations of Oasis. In fact, on the Oasis theme I think Noel Gallagher the neat little bass line in "Go Let It Out." So there's another one.
Fixed. He also played a lot with Paul McCartney and switched back and forth between bass and guitar as needed.
