I am sure this has been asked many times before, but what have you guys and gals found to be a decent substitute for a gut D. Flexible enough to slap, but stays in tune.

    Thanks

What he said - and a good quality one as well. After a year of experimenting with steel and synthetics I am back to plain gut G & D (and even considering a plain A). It feels like coming home. For me there is nothing like it and it is my voice. I dug an old Lycon D out of the string drawer (pretty thin 2.4mm), sanded it, oiled it and then sealed it with a beeswax leather conditioner and man oh man!
