How do you like this guitar if you own one?
Is anyone interested in selling one? I am looking for something to compliment my old L2000....

  2. Had a 5 string w/ the 2 -Tek.
Good bass but it weighed a ton. The 2-Tek added a lot of weight for not that much of a tonal difference. Through-body stringing is great, but no one needs 3 pounds of metal through the body to get the job done .

Nicest passive jazz bazz I've ever played. I've owned 5 of them; just found another one on Ebay one. Mint condition.

Thanks, if anyone has a four string Cruise for sale let me know.....Cheers

  5. Mine is my #1 and has been since I got it. I think it is the best passive J I have ever played. It is a bit heavy but it balances perfectly so the weight isn't such a burden.

I had a 5 and sold it. I think about that bass and although it was heavy it sounded real good and was at a great price. Should have kept it.

I had two Hamer Cruise basses, one with the 2-TEK, one with the Gotoh bridge. I should have kept the first one (the 2-TEK). I only sold it as I was breaking G strings on it with great regularity. I think if I'd switched to other strings I would have been OK. The 2-TEK adds a lot to the sound. It really does help the bridge couple with the body in a way that STB just does not. The extra weight (?) isn't really a factor to me. Every chunk of wood is different, so I don't know what my bass would have weighed had it NOT had the 2-TEK.

OK, I know the bridge is heavier than the wood it replaced, but it's not a huge difference so I'd discount that factor (and I like light basses!). It was simply the best Jazz bass I played until I played some Lakland US Joe Osbornes. If I could find another 2-TEK four string Cruise I'd be sorely tempted to spend money I shouldn't.

I believe the '96/'97 2-teks weigh a little less. The plate on the back is smaller on my '96 than on my '95. The company took 1/3 of the weight off by making the plate smaller. Not really enough to tell that big of a difference.

I have four of them - some of the best and most underrated jazzes out there. All of mine have 2-Tek's which DO make a big impact on the tone and sustain. Cruises pop up on eBay regularly so keep and eye out - they usually go in the $500-600 range. I have SD SJB-2 hot jazz pickups in all of mine which seem to compliment the tone of the 2-Tek very well. They have a grindly piano-like tone to them. All of four of mine are very consistent in terms of quality and tone.
