I bought a used hanewinckel and it's got 3 switches. One is active/passive, the other is a 3/way that controls a mid frequency but I'm not sure what the 3rd switch does. Anyone familiar with this setup?

Probably parallel/series toggle for the neck pickup. Did you buy one of James' that sold here?

Yes. So is the mid freq switch a "bump" switch or does it control the frequency that the mid knob centers on?

The mid toggle selects the frequency that the mid knob boosts or cuts. Flat on the knob is, of course, at the center detent.

Not sure what you mean by flat. To me, flat would be a bypass for the mid knob. It seems to me that the center detent is half way between the up and down position of the switch. In all 3 positions, the mid knob boosts and cuts.
