Never played one, but boy are they pretty!
There's a sixer on ebay -
I've played a 7-string and a 5-string from him and really enjoyed it. Comfy, good build, good tone. All in all a solid builder.
Mine should ship next Monday
I've played two on separate occasions and was highly impressed.
He's on my list of luthiers I might try to work with.
I own three, they're great, haven't found anything I like better (eg Smith, Tobias). Very decently priced for a custom job, Pete H. is a great guy and very helpful in designing your dream bass.
The one on ebay is:
- looks like wide string spacing
- Alder body
- Bubinga top
- bubinga/wenge/maple neck (7 piece)
- wenge fingerboard
- Bartolini soapbars, b/m/t controls plus a 3-way mid switch, and probably coil-split switches for each pickup
I can't read the serial # (on the back of the headstock), in fact it doesn't even look like it has one, but it's just stamped so maybe the glare obscures it. This bass is the one representing the "Ceres" body style on the www.hguitars.com web site. So it's at least four years old I think. At the current price I'd say it's a pretty good deal, still worthwhile at a couple hundred more. After that I'd say go for a new one.
They are great basses and I hope to once again own one.
