hard bass, easy guitar?

  1. i am in a little bit of a situation here
my friend and i have been playing for about a year. However, I am pretty decent playing bass, but he, well, sucks at playing guitar. We like to play together, but there is only so much we can do. So far, the only song that we can play is beastie boys, sabotage, which isn't too hard for him because its 1 chord, and its fun for me because it has a fun bass part. Does anyone else know of any songs that are easy on guitar but are somewhat complex on bass?

  2. is this a serious band situation? or just having fun? If it's a band situation, well.. get a new guitarist. If not, Green day's Brain Stew is the definition of simple.

  3. its not really a band situation, but he is a pontential member of my band and i want him to get better, and the only way he can get better is to start playing on a regular basis, something i guess i volunteered myself to do.
still, any help will be good.

most blink songs that i've heard sound pretty ridiculously easy on guitar. bass too.

The Bouncing Souls - Lamar Vannoy

That might be a good choice.

  6. long view would be even easier on guitar, because there barely is any. not to mention, its a pretty fun song to play on bass.

Sublime songs usually has complex basslines over easy guitar

  8. Sublime is a very good suggestion, also Rusted Root tunes are usually hard on the bass player. Barenaked Ladies. Any ska tunes usually have somewhat fun basslines.

  9. Violent Femmes. Lord, just about anything by them has very simple guitar, and a pretty decent bassline.

  10. Maybe 'Knocking On Heavens Door'? The whole song is only three chords (G,D,C,C) but I have made some pretty cool basslines for it.

if your guitarist gets a little better and u get ALOT better you can play SOME rancid songs...i do it with my guitarist when we play maxwell murder..but u can make up some easier stuff instead of the solo ie, another verse

  12. actually, i did try to get him to learn maxwell murder, but he just isn't good. i can even play the solo. greenday-longview has sorta worked, he still needs to work on the chorus a little bit tho. thanks for all of your suggestions, i'll stay on his case until he gets good

  13. The chorus to Longview is 3 chords. How long has this guitarist been playing?

  14. he has been playing for 10 months, but has never really been able to sit down and practice. the only time he practices is when i am there to practice with him. he wants to get good but doesn't have the effort to put into it. Unlike me, who had the dedication from day one and can play like a bitch now :D

  15. Lounge act by Nirvana, good bass line, it moves all over the place, guitar plays a total of about 5 or 6 chords, with only 3 chord changes at a time, and they're all power chords.
