They sing about killing cops? Im gonna have to start writing songs about killing Rancid then.

Rancid is great,but they aren't exactly "hardcore street punk."

 

Then you've never heard any real punk rock. Rancid is a joke. I've been connected with the punk scene for fifteen years, and every punker I've ever known has thought the same.

Go buy the Germs anthology and Wild In The Streets by the Circle Jerks. Also try Blatz and Filth.

 

agreed, rancid is pretty poppy (and i have both 93 and lets go, so )

as for my suggestion:
the holy duo: black flag and the bad brains

 

i'm not so sure this is your cup of tea, but i really love the rollins band, expecially first thre album/ep. there is a new box set out there with their first works. it rocks!

There are thousands of hardcore/street punk bands,
i wouldn't call rancid that though, Unseen, Toxic Narcotic, Casualties, Exploited, Antishism are street punk or crust bands.
you should definately check a band called American Steel if u like rancid, also Choking Victim, and Leftover Crack.

 

The newest Rancid album is probably closest to hardcore of anything they've done.

 

the missing 23rd, leftover crack, screeching weasel, zeke, mute 98, AFI.

for more melodic punk then listen to satanic surfers, propaghandi, millencolin, A and ten foot pole.

and for classic punk: ramones, sex pistols, the buzzcocks, misfits and new york dolls.

Matthew West, I hope you aren't one of those "big time old school" punks that's more "punk" then everyone else. I think Rancid's older stuff is kind of poppy, but have you heard their new album? I don't see how you could say it's a joke... Nobody I've ever talked to thinks Rancid is a joke. They are one of the most respected punk bands today.

 

and i forgot... get some AFI. anything by them is good. But I must warn, they have good lyrics. Very good. There's nothing about killing cops (as much as i love it [sorry if any of you fellow TBers are cops])
