  1. Just curios. If you buff a matte finish, does it not become glossy? When trying to clean my matte walls, if I rub too hard they become shinny. Just sayin.

I recently built a P w/a matt finish, it's getting shiny in spots too.

Finish treatments were given to me as gloss, satin, matte and a 4th I can't remember the name, all in order of "glossieness". I wanted on the lesser glossy side because they told me it would not show scratches as much (cats and an occasional visiting dog(s)).

I'll put a pic up when finished. Today, they should get most of the stain down.

I realize floors, as with a lot of things, are "to each his own", but after a day of staining and the 1st coat of the high traffic matte finish, we are nothing short of thrilled with how our site finished solid wood hickory, Bona-Stain Nutmeg color stained floors are turning out. Pictures do not in any way shape or form do justice. Tomorrow is buffing and the second and last high traffic coat.

  5. Nothing to add really, but I once worked on a remodel that had a Brazilian Cherry floor installed. Man, I never thought I'd ever be that infatuated with a flooring material, but it was all kinds off pretty.

I thought for sure you'd have a Packer logo embedded in there somewhere. :D
    They look very nice.
I will miss the hardwood floors in our house when we move out.

Floors look great. S'now you need to make sure all the feet on your furniture have good glides on them before sitting them on you new floors.

One more day of socks only. 4 more days till furniture can go back, but I solved that - we ordered a new couch and 2 chairs this morning!

We're getting ready to have red oak added in two rooms, and to have two others refinished.

Quotes are $6400, $5000 and $3700. We have more faith in the two higher ones. Not much detail in the low one.

  14. I rarely choose low bid too when it comes to home improvements. I speak from experience and have learned that lesson. Also, for refinishing floors, I would require the provider is bonded, insured and in good standing with the State contractor licensing board.

Good thoughts. I will check to confirm that both middle and high conform to that - I believe they do.

Looks great Jeff. Love that you went with the craftsman woodwork, and went the extra mile for quartersawn. That is my favorite style.

Quick revival for a quick question.

What do you put in a seam between ceramic tile and the hardwood? Some sort of caulking filler?

You could do that, or a transition cap looks nice when done right.
    Something similar to this:

I should add, both areas are at door thresholds if that makes a difference
