My combo's fan has grown ridiculously noisy so I tried to replace it with a noiseless 24v fan recommended for the job by TalkBass. When I switched on, there was a tiny crackle then pop and tiny puff of smoke. What happened?

Are you sure the original fan was a 24vdc fan and not an AC fan?

Is the rest of the amp ok?
