I like the concept of this amp. I like the sound it produces, too but it cracks, snaps and pops, and it's driving me crazy. I was in my studio attempting to practice and the noise this thing makes is maddening. Anyone else using the Hartke LH1000 or any other amplifier have this problem? I'm writing this in anger over this thing. I want to throw it through the bleaking window because it's freaking NOISY!!!

There, I got that off my chest.

    Any suggestions?

Yes, make sure the input jack is clean, and also check the preamp tube

That's not normal at all for LH1000's. MIne is whisper quiet after lots of use(no abuse). +1 on possible tube issue.

ok cool. Can I simply take it apart and find the preamp tube with no problem, and what should I look for?

Unplug it from the wall first. Unscrew the lid and lift off.
The tub is shielded in a metal sleeve on the control side of the amp.

Can't remember, but I think the tube sleeve turns and lifts off similar to an old taillights

The tube might be a tad snug, wiggle it out very carefully and clean the metal ends very carefully with Deoxit, or test it with a new tube if you have one

Thanks a lot, mrb327! I'm going to do that now. I really do appreciate the Talk Bass forum and family.

No problem. For more info if you do need a new tube, the stickies at th top here has a FAQ, and there are links about tubes.

If you get the lid off and have questions, let us know

That was a piece of cake. I have to wait until the morning to buy the Deoxit but I went ahead and took the top off removed the tube just to check it out and everything was exactly as you said. Now, about the input jacks... should I Deoxit those also?

If you don't use the effects loop, you might want to clean those too. Spray you're Deoxit in and then inset you're cable into each jack a few times. Sometimes those jacks can get dirty and cause issues with the signal.

Just to let ya'll know, I detoxed inputs, knobs, tube, including the pots on my bass guitar (which have been crackling for some time now) and I am truly amazed at the results. Radio Shack had 1 can of Detoxic Gold 5 on the shelf ($28.00 w/tax), and it is worth every penny. It's like I have a new amp! The sound of my rig has improved. I tell you, it a really good feeling when something works as advertised.

A cleaning sorts out so much stuff.
