I got this e-mail "Hi tom its mark,I am asking you to give me a endoresment to play your basses and your basses only and exclusively .I play for some of the top session musician in new york." I am assuming somebody is blowing hot air. But you never know..... Thanks ......t
Is this the guy???? http://moo.vivaroxymusic.com/2441 you should definitely hit him up for more info, that is a vague email. Not very professional.... Sounds like BS to me. - Tom
Never heard of him, but I'd like to hear more about your basses, especially if you're in central Florida!
yeah, ask for a demo tape...thats proof for how good he is...better yet, ask for a video of his playing or website for better proof!
Some good suggestions. I haven't e-mailed him yet. Super that one lived at bass central for a while..t
Hey, if you catch up with him tell him I am still waiting for that $20 he owes me , on second thought send him the strings, maybe then he will have enough money to pay me back
I just got this from him. "Tom, it's Mark,I will send you a press kit and some of my music. Thanks, Mark" Interesting........t
He sure is informal. If I were a session player emailing you for an endorsement, it would seem feasible to assume that if I sessioned in New York and you are in Florida that I would send any and all materials, credentials, and name-drops possible to legitimize myself and establish a decent, respectable rapport with you. Maybe it's a NY thing? No clue.
Sorry for being ignorant but am I correct in assuming he wants me to send him a bass for free so he can use it? .....t
probably so But I think Matt has a point, for the fact that he really doesn't sound very business-like, as being a session bassist is very much his business, it's iffy. If you do get a press kit, make sure that the recordings are his, and not some music he downloaded off some guy's website...
hmm, if he's just asking for free stuff i would move on and find someone that you can build a relationship with. Endorsement is all about building a business relationship. Artists are promoting your products and you in turn are getting your name out there based on their reputation. If it were me I don't think I would want someone who handles their business in this way representing me or my product.
Naw, it ain't a NY thang. It may be that he's from someplace else and has moved to NY and is getting some work and feeling a little big in the britches. Most folks I know that have endorsement deals, they've contacted the company and provided CDs, resumes, credentials, tour info etc. AND THEN (depending on their marquee value) they end up getting stuff for cost, not free.
Sadowsky is a NY thing, why wouldn't he go there, no offense to you or your basses, but if he is local to NY, I would hit Sadowsky, Aguilar, J Daddrio, Labella---no brainer---bus ticket takes u to all of them in person
with all due respect I would like to say don't even bother,it sounds like BS. there was a guy based out of Florida a few years ago who was claiming to be the bassist for The Cure and he was going around in search of endorsements and he would just call up a co.out of the blue or go to a NAMM show and pretend to be the Cures bassist and thru this process he had acumilated a lot of gear from some top Bass, amp and cab companies(when I say a lot I mean a lot.don't ask because I won't and can't mention the companies)he was taking the merch to various Pawn shops thru out Florida,Cali etc.he finaly got caught about two years ago and last I heard a few of the companies were definately pressing charges as far as if he got anytime I don't think so,so you never know this may be the same guy resurfacing.
Let's see...I'm a New York bassist, my last name is Smith, oh, but my first name isn't Mark. Maybe it's Mark Spitz?
Which is it baby, Spitz or Swallows? -Austin Powers Joking....I would tell this guy where to go. You deserve moolah for your work, not a bunch of lip service. Mon
Oh, Mark Smith? That's me. Yeah, how bout you hook me up with that striped precision on your site... Sounds like a load of crap to me. If somebody legit wanted an endorsement, I'd think they'd be a little more professional, as others have said. And, yeah, I'd say he wants a free bass. Don't give him nuffin.
