Certain online merchandisers—not gonna mention any names, but you probably know who I’m talking about—often promote giveaways, but I never see where they post any winners names. Does this mean they are merely fishing for for our email addresses so they can spam us? Am I Naive in thinking that somebody is going to win a new bass, amp, pedal, etc? Is there a difference between their claim that “you could win a prize” and “some lucky person WILL win a prize”?
I won this black Tele body from the now-defunct RockAudio.com when they had a Premier Guitar giveaway:
Surprisingly, quite a few members have. I asked a similar question recently. I, unfortunately, have never won anything bass related. I have gotten some free merch from companies over the years though. I got strings from D'Addario, a shirt and jacket from Dingwall, and all kinds of kicknacks from the local retailer.
Ok, well, that reassures me that at least some of the merchandisers award the gifts. I know several mandolin web sites that have awarded prizes and published the names.
I won a remote wifi mixer thing from a music store. You could mix your band from your phone. I gave it to our drummer, because it was his studio, and it was a pain for him to get up, navigate monitors and stands and junk, fix what was feeding back, and then return.
I haven’t but my previous singer actually won a small PA system. It was two QSC powered tops, stands, cables and a touch screen style mixer.
Two Steve Huey knives, & a Vortex rifle scope...but not online! No no no! Online is like the way Wayne & Garth would say...Fished In!
Back in the late 80s I won a Gibson giveaway...lots of accessories, cables, picks, ebows, t-shirts...nothing of real value or even bass related but it was cool. Rock on.
The most valuable thing I've won from those raffles are bags of V-Picks. Once the sampler set & another time I won my choice of two. Also won a CD once, but it was entirely instrumental. Not even sure what happened to that.
I won a night vision monocular from a now defunct outdoor website. The same site sent me a trail cam for free. My best luck is with gun tickets. Probably half the guns I own, I've won off a ticket or at a gun bash.
I won a hat from The Mandolin Store, which is one of the places that posts the winners, so you know they actually give the goodies away.
30-something years ago I won a Yamaha SE-200, their entry-level Strat-style electric guitar. I still have it.
