Has anyone ever used an octaver to fit in with downtuned Metal guitars?

I decided to oder a cheap 4 string for fun and I'm thinking of using it as a backup bass in my band, but unfortunately, my guitarists use C tuning and I really don't feel like tuning it C G C F or B E A D and would like to avoid it if at all possible. I have two pedals that are capable of a nice octave down effect. What do you think, will it work? Has anyone ever tried this?

In theory, if you blend the octave and direct equaly, you would sound like you were playing an octave down.
I've recently re-strung my 4 string from BEAD (to EADG). I've definatly got a better sound.
