i just bought a new bass and the sticker inside says that it is a "universal". it sounds great to me, the best bass that i have owned. i don't know much about names, i have a palentino plywood box with strings, and i sold a engelheardt (sp?) a few years ago. to me this is a really good bass. i paid $900 usa for it, a stand, and a padded bag for it. i like the bass and i think i got a good deal on it for the sound. it's a laminate bass. sorry about rambling, i just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this bass. thank you

My upright is a "universal" bass as well. Made in Korea, bought 10 years ago. A great instrument!

Any new info or experiences about this instrument company? I have a chance to pick one up used for $600 and I'm seriously leaning towards it. It looks good, sounds good.

    Anyone?

Any info on the tag other than "Universal"?

It seems unlikely that this Universal bass would be in the same league as that $3k instrument. I think it sounded pretty good, though. For $600 I don't know if I could do much better unless I personally knew someone dumping a quality instrument at a "friend price".

At one time Lemur had some of its basses made by a Korean maker. Jerry was notorious for quality control so the basses he got from Korea were much more consistent than the Linear or Jim Laabs (Munich/Vienna/Hamburg) basses. That said, if the bass has held up well for several years, they can be a great value for money. There are several searchable threads here on Korean basses.

Looks like a Jim Laabs special.

Thanks you guys. I have a good feeling about this bass. I'll report back to this thread if I find out any additional information.

How can you tell? I'm not calling you out, I'm curious what telltale signs are for this bass. Thanks!
