Is a Badass2 bridge a direct "drop in" replacement for the new MIA Fenders? I am planning on buying an American Series Precision soon and I want to know if these bridges would drop into it ok. So will they?
oh yeah, and would I be better off if I just left the stock bridge on it? I want a punchier tone and I play with a pick, if thats of any help.
The Badass II is a direct (5 screw) replacement bridge for Fender Jazz and Precision Basses. With the American series (MIA) you should have no problems with a replacement. However with a MIM (Mexican Version) the bridges arent on right in the first place, so it may require some minor woodwork. The original Badass bridge is the one that required routing of the instrument body. What will it do? It will offer you a tremendous increase in attack, sustain, and clarity of notes over the standard Fender bridge. I think they run about $50 or so. Joe Weiss Weiss Custom Basses
Where can I get a Badass II bridge? I got one once a few years ago but I cant remember where the heck I found it... Who has a good price and knows how to take care of their bass gear?
Try http://www.internetmusicsupply.com I have found them to be reasonably priced and offer usable service. I see BA II bridges on ebay all the time. The go from $30-40 depending on what kind of shape they are in. If you go with a BA, you are giving up stringing through body, which some argue is a good thing. I have either option on my G&L and have found I prefer stringing through body for added sustain and bass. I am not sure it would make a huge difference on an MIA. I definately see the application on a MIM. I sure others will offer better insight. Chas
mmm... guitar center... low prices... I just hope the next badass II bridge I get is stamped correctly. Mine only has the upper half of "BADASS BASS II" it takes half the fun out of the bridge, which is of course, the word ass.
Sorry, but that is not correct for MIA Fenders from 1995 to the present day. New MIA Fender 4 strings have a 3 screw bridge with through body stringing for a total of 7 holes under the bridge. Only the center screw on the BAII will line up with the center screwhole on the bass body.
