I have a wonderful Lakland DJ5 that I'm considering having routed out to fit the Nordy Big Singles. Has anyone done this with their Lakland or other J-bass? Experiences? Pics?

  2. I routed my jazz bass to accommodate a basslines soapbar.
I dremeled the body and a friend cut out the guard for me.

There's really no downside except possible value 30 years down the road. That is, if it's done well. I had no such concern on any of my basses. I put a Dimarzio, er, the big humbucker, in the neck position of my nice Warmoth and it came out great. Way better for me, and that's what matters.

Not for big singles, but I routed my Lakland jazz bass for Thunderbuckers. It is not difficult, but it is a case for using the right tools for the job and working from a routing template. It was a very rewarding task.

Geeeeze, didn’t you guys read the other post about modding? Now your basses are worth $50.

Kidding I mod everything almost. Like the matte Jazz that looks great!

There was a guy here on TB that did the same to his Geddy Lee Jazz. Looked impressive.
