I was thumbing through a musicians friend catalog last night, and came across this. Is it just me, or is that quite possibly one of the ugliest Gibsons ever? I am simply amazed at what kind of crap certain companies make. I do agree that function is a big part of it, so I'll reserve complete judgement until I know someone who has played one of them, but style is a big thing to me, and I would never go near this guitar. Okay, I'm done ranting now. Anyone want to let me know what they think?
I would get the idea if the headstock didn't look like that. It's a reverse explorer, but the headstock is a completed mess.
I wouldn't mind getting one of those... Not exactly a beauty but I've never cared for the explorer model anyway. (EDIT - Agreed the headstock is the ugliest one I've seen...) A guitar I don't understand anybody would want was a Fender Stratocaster (at least I think it was a Fender) with the body mirrored - When you looked at it, the neck was pointing out in the opposite direction of the horns. Another Fender I really don't understand is the Hendrix model for right-handed people - basically a left-handed strat flipped over and re-strung. Who would like to play any of these two guitar models? Me not understand...
I understand it being a reversed explorer, but with the pickguard, headstock, and finish combination, it just looks horrible to me. As far as that one goes, the Pups were reverse wound, which gave it a slightly odd echo tone that some people liked, IIRC. My friend Andrew had one, but sold it to help fund his Les Paul custom.
Same here. Funny, I've often wondered what various lefty basses would look like 'flipped'. I'd like to see this variation of a T-Bird, or RD Artist. Done more tastefully, though.
not a problem...most of my friends call me a "repository of useless info", and that little tidbit is about as useless as it comes
It's no more ugly than a lot of bass guitars that people think are gorgeous. For every ugly instrument, there's someone out there who thinks it's beautiful. I'm sure someone might think my favorite bass is ugly, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they said so. Having said that, I think it's hideous and not even cute in a retro stylish way
I am reminded of my sociology class back in JC where an African tribe would sacrifically cut off the fingers of their women to express mourning over the death of a member.
