Should I get a Head or poweramp with a preamp?

I have been looking at Carvin heads , however people say that they overheat and get hot quickly. Does anyone know if this is true?

Anyway, I am not sure if I should go with a power amp/preamp setup. B/c this guy I kno has a preamp and effects rack he wants to sell, and I can get them for prob about 100 $ bucks a piece. I am not sure what kind they are, but I have yet to go check them out. I think he said one of them was called something like "Nightrider" or something like that, but Im not sure. I know the guy wouldnt rip me off with bad stuff, but Im not sure what I should do.

WEhat kind of power amps are good/cheap?

    cheap good power amps..

you need to look at QSC and Carvin power amps.

My Carvin works great and doesn't color my tone.
the only bad thing about my carvin DCM1500 is that it takes up 3-rack spaces... but thats ok.. i was gonna fill those spaces up sooner or later.. good thing i did now so i won't spend any more $.... for the moment anyway
