Looking at picking up a pair of Avatar 112's later this summer, and need a head to throw on there. I'm guessing it'll have to be pretty small (a la Markbass or Genz Benz), because I'll probably only take one of the 112's to smaller gigs, so it needs to fit on top of just one.

Would you guys get the 112's in 4 or 8 ohm? Are there any good, small heads that will even go down to 2 ohms? Depending on the head, would I be completely underpowered just using one of the 112's at 8 ohms? :help:

My budget for the head maxes out at around 700 clams.

If it were you, what would you use with a pair of 112's?

  2. Ive got the LMII and it works great and has tons of head room.

My impression was that both the MB and the GB had 4 ohm minimum loads so if you are looking to drive two cabinets, 8 ohm is the model to order.

I use a G-K 700RB-II with two 1x12's. It's not as light as some newer heads (MarkBass, GB Shuttle, etc.), but it's no heavyweight, and it sounds fantastic. It's powerful enough that I've gigged many times with just one 1x12 cab.
