Does anyone know if it's safe to run a head without a speaker load attached to it? I use an Eden head, and love it dearly so I don't want to damage it in any way.

As long as it's solid state, you should be fine.

My amp is a hybrid, tube preamp and solid state power amps. Would that affect the advice given above?

It won't hurt at all unless your power stage is tube. You'll be fine!:)

For plugging directly into a mixing console, for example... (recording)

    All the best,

  8. Wouldn't you want to have a cab then too?

In my home studio, I have no room for a cab...

In the studio sometimes I use the direct out on my Aguilar 359 tube amp without a speaker pluged in. It's fine as long as its only in standby mode.

I know running a head without a cab sounds odd, but I'm doing exactly what jaylanb said. I've got a Digidesign 001 setup, and I've racked my recording equipment together. I live in an apartment, so I don't have alot of extra space, and knowing that I can safely run my head without my cab nearby helps out.

How funny :D ... I also own a Digidesign Digi001 setup, and the room where I have my studio is really small. That's the reason why I currently have no amp, since I play in no band and only do recording.

    All the best,

  13. Ok, if you record without a band I can understand, but I only record if together with my band.
