Are there any "dont miss" stores in DC, VA burbs or Maryland near the city?? Both high end bass and guitar( my son). Would hate to miss an awesome store if one exists! Thanks,

Atomic is always a must see... its not necessarily "high end" as much as a pickers paradise. Washington music center, aka Chuck levins, is pretty good too.

Depends on where in DC you are coming from and the time of day. If you know where the BW parkway is, you take that out of DC to 495, it's about 2 exits to route 1 north and about 3 miles up route 1. It's not a bad drive unless you are in rush hour.

I wouldn't argue with that, but they do have the section behind the counter that usually has a couple dozen high end guitars and basses.

Isnt Atomic in Beltsville in the industrial park a few blocks off the beltway near College Park, or did they move AGAIN?

  12. Chuck Levins Washington Music Center In Wheaton Md. is a must do for anyone in the D.C. area. It's about six or seven miles north of D.C. at 11151 Viers Mill Rd. Go north on Georgia Ave. (Rt. 97 ) Bear left at Viers Mill Rd in Wheaton (Rt. 586 ) and it's a couple of blocks up on the right Just past the Metro station. It's a huge mom and pop outfit that has been in business since 1958. I have bought three guitars from them and countless accessories. Sadly , I now live 90 miles away from them but still try to pop in whenever I'm in that area.
Best music store I've ever been in.

Jong at Jive has awesome gear for sale always....Sadowskys, MTDs, Roscoes, etc...he's the only guy around with the boutique basses on tap...Action has really great old Fenders and amps...and a , HUGE pedal selection...Atomic is the player's store to me...you can often find really good local guys hawing it up or testing stuff out...Chuck's has a very wide selection of widely used brand name gear...the guys are generally great there...that's about it unfortunately...

Chuck Levins is legendary. We use to plan day trips up there back in the pre-internet days. Always an adventure.

Had the chance to check out Jive Sounds today.....Thanks to Jong for letting me play some great basses. Never had the chance to play Zon, MTD, Spector or Sadowsky until today. Really liked a Zon he had just taken in trade. If I only had the money to spend.......
