    The tip of my headphones snapped off,
    I'm trying to put a new mini plug on the end of it,
    there are 3 wires, red, green and black,
    is there a standard color for left and right?
    (black and red? like a stereo?)
    I'm assuming green is a ground wire, but wasn't sure..
    is this usually the case?

    Red-right, green-left and black-ground. Test it with an AA battery to make sure.

    What he said.

    Red is right
    Green is left
    Black is ground

    Ignore any posts that say otherwise. :smug:

    With a TRS stereo plug used for headphones,
    T=tip, R=ring, S=sleeve

    Right and left are tip and ring but can be safely interchanged
    The sleeve is always ground

    Just in case it matters, tip is normally left, ring is right.

    Megafiddle is right- Tip=Left, Ring=Right and Sleeve=common (ground).

    DON'T use a battery to test headphones- they can't handle the current and excursion the way a larger speaker can. If you need to test each channel, use a multi-meter.
