HELP! I like fusion, prog rock, jazz, blues, classic rock and hard rock. NOT speed metal, thrash punk, or rap. Hip-hop is okay though, if it's musical. What should I be listening to?

Edit: I already know about the new Dream Theater disc, it's on my shopping list. Anything else within the last year or so that's worth listening to?
  2. Then listen to Emperor.

    Or Children of Bodom...

Comercial as they may be I would still recomend Queens of the Stone Age.

Great rock music is the only real way to describe them in my book. Im blown away by a lot of their stuff and the fact that a band with such talent and an interesting outlook on rock 'n' roll is doing as well as they are.

I just picked up Robert Randolph and the Family Band's new album, Unclassified, as well as their live disc, Live at the Wetlands. Both discs are excellent. Bass Player had some info on their bassist, Danyel Morgan, in the September 2003 issue (Ron Carter on the cover.) All I can say is that Danyel (as well as the rest of the band) just burn on both CDs. The band is a great mix of soul, blues, rock, and funk.

bass/drum duo, sounds like they've got a guitarist too, but they don't and they're pretty good.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought COB:)

What about Counting Crows, don't they have a new CD out?

EDIT: I've heard good things about Alien Ant Farm's new CD, also.

AAF's new cd was produced by the DeLeo brothers (Robert and Dean, bassist and guitarist of STP).

You can really pick up some cool vibes from some of that stuff.

  12. If you like the classic rock sound check out the album by a new band called "Jet". A cool mix of Beatles, Rolling Stones and AC/DC.

30 seconds to mars is still my favorite new discovery of the year.

Don't let the fact that actor Jared Leto is the singer fool you, this is a real band not just an ego trip.

after having listened to a lot of fusion and progressive stuff i've found the brit-cockney-pop
"vehicles and animals" by athlete a great disk to freshen up. *very* melodic and easy on the ears, but you don't feel guilty :D .
