heavy gauge = less floppy?

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by heretic, Sep 8, 2004.

  1. Just a quick Q...

Will heavier gauge string create a more tension? I have a new 35" 5 string and the B is kinda floppy :help: any brand reccomendations?

  2. That's usually a quick solution, but it's not always the case. In the same brand, it's usually that as gauge increases, tension increases, but it will vary greatly among brands. Some heavy gauge strings are low tension, and others are light gauge with high tension. I can't really recommend anything because there are tons of types with different materials and sounds, but try something with a heavier gauge than you're currently using. After those strings crap out, try something even heavier in the same brand if you still find it floppy. It might take a while until you find what you're looking for.
