heavy gauge strings and standard tuning

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by 40Hz_of_Love, Feb 24, 2008.

  1. Hey, will I be able to tune to EADG with a 54-111 set? Or is this kind of gauge only for dropped tunings?

It'll work fine, but prepare for a thorough setup, including potentially nut slots, truss rod and bridge saddle/intonation work.

I rather like these gauges for standard, but I'm funny like that.

  4. I'm not afraid of adjusting truss rod or bridge, but I have no idea how to make nut slots wider. It's a brass nut.

  5. file?

  6. I don't get it.

I use the low four of a 130 five string set on my T-Bird, EADG. No problem. Takes the wind out yer sails on a long night though.
