"heavy" song for the band to play?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by JoeRules00, Jul 17, 2002.

  1. Me and the guys have been thinking, we need to kind of get away from the light alternative rock we've been playing (Strokes, Hives, Weezer, etc.) and we want to play something harder and heavier. Not death metal, really, but something to the extent of Bawitdaba by Kid Rock, Your Disease by Saliva, or Touch, Peel and Stand by Days of the New. I'd like to hear you guys' opinions, mainly because I'd like something that's a little more fun for me the bassist. (but don't tell the other guys :) )

edit: by hard i don't really mean extensively challenging, I mean hard in style of music.

For something easy, try songs like "Junkhead" or "Man in the Box" by AIC. Junkhead especially has a really heavy groove to it. There's probably a couple of STP songs too, like "Sex Type Thing."

I'm sure there are 100s of others, but I've played these and they give you some heaviness without crossing over into the metal realm.

    Heavy? Hmn...

Alice in Chains tunes are nice and heavy, as well as a lot of Biohazard tunes, look into eponymous era Godsmack songs, Danzig songs (Twist of Kain!),
Anthrax post Belladonna, Bush, Monster Magnet if you want some groove, maybe look into Nothingface (the album Violence).

    Just suggestions.

  8. How about "Sixteen Tons". Songs don't get any heavier than that.

He never said "heavy metal." He just said "harder and heavier."

Yeah, but that is harder and heavier than most so called 'metal'!
