Been in the SF Bay Area 5 years. The biggest lightning and thunderstorm I can recall in this location is overhead right now, and has been for over an hour. This 3-story apartment building is thumping with resonation. I've seen East Coast and Appalachian storms that make this seem like amateur hour, but this is a pretty big one nonetheless. Where was all this rain and lightning in WINTER?
I've experienced this in the Bay Area around 10 years ago. They're deafening and scary-close. Strange how close they seem. By far the loudest thing I've ever experienced. I can't imagine louder.
Apparently our general impressions voiced here were accurate. Last night's storm set a record for lightning strikes. (Plus, the pics associated with this story are pretty cool.) A night to remember: Thunderstorm shatters records
I caught a storm as described in the OP maybe some rainy day last summer or fall. THEE best lightning show Ive ever seen!
great night....'cept for the folks on the airplane that got hit by lightning. I imagine that happens often, but still a bit startling that they were letting planes take off in the middle of this "epic storm"
