OK so on my lunch break today I stop by a local indie music retailer who is liquidating a good bit of their stock. I was in a hurry but had time to play on a Fernandes 5 string and absolutely loved it. Very wide string spacing, from far away I thought it was a 6er.

I didn't get a chance to see what make it was other than it was MIJ. The body was this sort of trans teal wood grain. The retail price on the tag was like 1200-1400$ and he had it marked down to 400$. It looked brand new with active jazz looking pups. I thought maybe it was a Gravity Deluxe but I couldn't find any pics of it in that finish. But I would say that is what it closely resembles.

He's holding the bass for me until the end of the day as I wanted to find out more about it.

    Anyone have a clue?

Can't figure it out from what your saying, but it sounds like it just might be a Gravity... Look up Robert Truillo pics. He plays a Gravity often You might see that bass.

I can say that the MIJ Fernades are some great axes! I don't but I think $400 would be a a bit much for me. If you really like it & have the funds, go for it... I dont think you'll be disappointed with the quality of the instrument. Offer him $300 & when he counters (or say no) then ask him to meet you in the middle @ $350 out the door. It is a pawn shop after all right?

    Good luck & post pics..!

I looked at various pictures of the gravity. The one I played on had four knobs where as the gravity x has 3 and the deluxe has 4. Also the J pups don't have exposed pole pieces. Still didn't find that finish though...

Whoa that is very close! It didn't have gold hardware or a matching headstock. I don't remember the neck pup being slanted either. But that finish is very similar, the ebay one looks a bit darker but that's probably from the lighting. I think this might be the closest I get. Thanks Rush!

I never found anything on the Fernandes site that showed my exact bass, only basses that were 'close'. I think it runs in that company ;)

LOL, Fernandes is good at confusing their customers. I read you can't even look up their serial numbers.

Anyway I ended up not getting that bass. I found a great deal on a new Warwick Corvette 5 for 675$ and couldn't pass it up.

The second one the seller says is MIJ and the third one the seller says is MIK.
