Hello! I'm from Bristol in the UK. Joining this forum because I'm an insomniac looking for a forum active in the middle of the night here. I've played bass on and off all me life, but at 40, combination of plenty of time at home (2020) and changes in my personal life meant I finally started dedicating time and energy to it rather than just picking one up once every few years, and now I'm a slightly less rubbish, but still basically $#*£ bassist looking to start their first band as an older person. My gear is as pictured, my beloved Precision - Mexican, buttercream, new tort guard, vintage Neve style knobs. And the pedalboard involves signal splitting so I blend distortion with heavily EQd clean signal for my proper dirt. Also love a bit of tasteful delay and chorus. I believe in using chea pguitar pedals. Amp is a darkglass head and cab, with the VMT (almost) always on for subtle gain, and a fair bit of compression after the gain. Apropos of nothing, I'm trans and non-binary, she/they, just in case any of my queer bass playing comrades are reading. Anyway hi!
Welcome aboard! At 42—and neither you nor I are remotely “old” by TalkBass standards —I’ve finally just started doing a band the way I’ve wanted to do it since age 12, so I can relate. Many of us here have similar stories of coming back to music after kids, careers, or burnout. I hope you’ll find some fun here in the wee hours, you’ve got a straight ally in me, and there’s a whole club of LGBTQ+ players on here as well
Original prog-rock (I guess you'd call it). I use a thumping style but I don't play funk. More like hard rock/metal. That's my newest bass. It's a 10th anniversary Strandberg Boden Bass. It's 1 of 5 made. The sweetest, lightest Bass I've ever played. Its 6 and a half pounds.
