I've been playing bass for about 6 months+, and now I want a new bass!
I'm looking for something good for funk and slapping, but also punk rock... So I'm guessing it should be something active with a humbucker, I've been looking at a few basses:
A Eiphone Firebird for sometihng with a growl,
    a standard Fender Mexico Pre-bass,
    a OLP Sting Ray copy,
    and a Cort GB74...

I know that only one of these are active, but I'm on a tight budget, a standard fender goes for about 600 dollars here in Denmark...

Please help if you have any suggestions for a bass.

I have the same style (punk n' funk) and a Standard MIM Jazz works wonders.

I read somewhere that the pickups on the mex jazz bas should be rather noisy..? But thanks for the advice, I'l check it out!
