help choosing the best upgrade?

  1. Hi,
I currently use Sonar 2.2 with a Roland U8 control surface.
It's an outdated system and I would like to get something newer but not super expensive.
I do home recording play bass and guitar and sing and want to be able to use software synths and drumloops as well.
I've been looking at the Tascam FW 1082 which is a firewire control surface.Nice unit but Sonar 2.2 is not set up to work with it and I would have to put together my own template, which seems to be difficult.
The Tascam comes with Cubase light which supports the hardware but the software is kind of lacking.
So I saw that Tascam still makes the US 428 which might be a step up from my U8 I'm not sure.
My U8 still uses MME drivers and I would like to have a machine that works with WDM or ASIO(I have a Pentium 4 running XP)
Do you guys have any recommendations for me?
