This bass has no serial # No control plate. A prototype ??
Headstock logo is silkscreened on. Seller says it's late 60s. Hofner book shows one dated 1970.
Can any of you fellows throw some light on this ???

If you wanna date a Hofner, try taking it out to lunch first...

Silkscreened headstock? Maybe it's a decal, and maybe it's a Hofner copy.

  3. I'm sure the asking price is quite high, too. I sure wouldn't risk a lot of money on something that has a lot of questionable points (no ser #? different controls, etc)

Gruhn Guitars www.gruhn.com has a 67 Hofner that belonged to Dan Fogelberg for $3000 IIRC. You pay a little more sometimes to buy from companies like Gruhn, but at least they won't rip you off !!!

This bass is a 1970-71 and it's a Hofner not a clone. These are often referred to as the "500/1 Custom" because of the controls, or lack there of compared the standard 500/1.

Can't say for sure how many were made, but they are common.
