Help!! Did Fender have a purplish color in 1999??

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bassguppy, Apr 27, 2010.

  1. Specifically during the late 90's for the Jazz bass. I looked over at the FDP forum and searched here but no such luck.

I would guess the color would be purple or plum but not too sure.

    Sitting in the mix well
Dunno if this will help, but I once had a MIM P around that age that was Midnight Blue but lots of people called it purple.

It was called Midnight Wine. I had a 1999 MIA P-Bass in that color.

I had a very Purple 1996 American Series Jazz bass. And I mean Purple! So yes.

  10. Yeah, specifically it was a 1999 Am Jazz bass....

    Thanks for the input.

Fender definitely had a Purple in their color list back then. I don't know the name but it is a plum purple. That bass looks to be original. I had a P-Bass that was the same color.

I have P Basses in midnight wine and midnight blue, that color is most definitely NOT either of those. I've never seen one that color before, and now my gas is flaring up again.

I agree, nothing like a purple bass!

I think the answer to the OPs question is indeed Purple Metallic. :)

The "Midnights" (blue and wine) were both MIM colors, not sure if they were offered on anything else.

My 1998 Precision is Midnight Blue (in my avatar) and the color rarely fails to bring compliments. I think it's pretty cool, in most flash photos, white stage lights, and outdoors it looks straight up blue, but the rest of the time it will vary from very dark blue, to dark purple, to almost black. :ninja:

In this photo the bass looks more purple than Midnight Wine, which is more on the red side in real life.

As I said, I had a 1999 MIA in Midnight Wine. It definitely was not a MIM P-Bass.

I've been searching for more info on my baby for years and then finally found this thread.

I think I have a P Bass in this purple spangle colour. I got it in LA in about '99 and brought it back to the UK.

Beautiful. On the pic you can see my custom thumb rest I put on. Really nice addition. It's glued on not screwed in.

Looks like a nice forum. might Stick about for a bit.
