Guys...I need help. I've had this Spector for probably 4 or 5 years now, its a Czech/ Euro 5-string, neck through Body construction, gold plated brass hardware, etc. Serial is 1883. Any ideas? I believe its too old to be an LX, and the Spector website is a little sketchy on this particular bass. Sorry for the grainy pics, any help is DEFINITELY appreciated.
If you give me the serial number, I can ask Stuart or his custom shop owner.... It may take a few days to get an answer back, but I can try. I havn't talked to them in a while, but they told me to contact them if I ever needed anything like this...
Not trying to hijack the thread but somehow I always thought the ns5crfm had dot inlays and not crown. I thought i had seen that on the Spector website. Here is mine I think from the late 80's. Sorry the picture is a little dark but now i am wondering what i have? Anybody?
I'm guessing somewhere between 1999 and 2002, given how long you've had it. I would take a look in the battery compartment and see what the preamp is (assuming it's stock). If you see "Aguilar" on the preamp that likely confirms my suspicions. The Euro NT basses made between 1994-1998 (that I've seen, at least) were 34" scale and had dot inlays.
It's not a late 80's bass. The 80's basses were made by Kramer under Stu Spectors direction. At that time the imports used black hardware and had dots and the American ones had gold hardware and the crown inlays. Does it have the SSD or the swirly S on the headstock? The post Kramer Spectors made in Czechslovikia ones used gold hardware and dot inlays. Based on the gold and dots, I'd bet it's a mid to late 90's bass. Sometime in the last few years, Euros (Czech) now use the crown inlays, just like the American ones.
Earlier models as previously mentioned have dot inlays but are labelled SSD isntead of Spector - there are transitional models in between that have features of previous models as well as features of latter models though. Just overlapping stock I guess? But it's pretty clear to tell what this one is from the the solid flamed maple body, EMG pickups, pearl crown inlays, and a dull finish on the bridge. 1999-2002 as mentioned too. I can't tell from the pics but if it's a solid color, it's a NS5CR - the "FM" indicates a flame-maple body. And that's also a model that preceeded the one in question as well and would have dot inlays like yours.
But based on this http://www.spectorworld.com/oct00ad.htm your bass is pre-2000 as the Euros had crown inlays in 2000. But NKUSigEp is right. There can be variations around this time.
Absolutely not. But I might have to :-( Serial is 1883...that would be amazing-thanks for offering even if it doesn't play out!
Nope, that is late 90's or into 2000's as it is a Spector logo headstock, not SSD. Plus, the crown inlays were not on the SSD basses I've seen.
No, to me it looks like the modern spector logo, the ssd logo looks like this(without the smaller lettering in front of it): Heres a pic of my Euro headstock:
You guys are all wrong, trust me I know what I'm talking about. Its definitely a 1972 Fender Jazz bass.
Sorry for the delay replying to some of the questions about what I have. when I got the bass it was black, since repainted candy apple red. It has a gold bridge, gold Schaller tuners, black knobs but they may have been replaced. It has an ssd headstock. The trussrod cover says spector on one side and Stuart Spector Designs on the other. I couldnt determind what pre it had in it but the serial number is 1270. So is the general consensus this is a post Kramer Spector? Maybe a transition model? Any further info would be much appreciated.
