I am considering buying a bass with the following info - any help in identifying the authenticity, and date, of the bass would be much appreciated. Looking for your expertise here.

    Fender Precision Bass (1971?).

    When the neck is removed:
    1. On the body, "T CHAMBERS" is present in black/dark blue ink.
    2. On the under side of neck: From what I can make out, in white ink "VIRGINIA MUSIC" is stamped (letters are backwards). The first word is hard to make out. I think it is "VIRGINIA". The second word below the first clearly says "MUSIC".
    3. On the neck: #01718 is stamped
    4. Neck Plate: #303324 is stamped
    5. Bridge Pickup: #6081 is stamped
    6. Neck Pickup: No stamp/number, but appears to be aged & matched to the bridge pickup

Thanks for your help on this one!

Pics of the headstock and decal would help.

Bridge pickup and neck pickup? On a '71 P-bass? That's not original.
  4. The "T Chambers" is consistent with a '71, as is the neck plate number. Perhaps, by "neck" and "bridge" pickups he means the two halves of the split coil?
