I've got this black Peavey Dyna Bass but I can't seem to figure out its manufacturing year.

From what I understand, these bass guitars have a long history, but to be honest, I don't know too much about them. What year were they discontinued?

Are they considered to be an "entry level" bass?

The Peavey Dyna-Bass has Super Ferrite Pickups. The serial number is 02808994. I think that it may be a 1994 bass because it ends in 994 for the serial number. Do you think that this may be a correct assumption?

    Thank you mates.

    So it's a 1987 Peavey Dyna-Bass?
Are they considered to be an "entry level" bass?

Thought the same thing, but unless he has multiple accounts, it's not the same user.

These were great basses. I still miss my early-1990 five-string. Unique sound, good build quality, and very playable.

Yes it is the same user. This is his roundabout way of asking the value of the bass his parents got him for Christmas that he doesn't want.

That's nice to hear. I'm thinking about trying it out and seeing if maybe I'll like it. :)

The main thing I was wondering is, is this bass considered entry-level? I was just curious.

I need to go find an amp now. I think I might keep this thing. It's got a lot of history and I just might give bass a shot

Far better quality that just "entry level".

Some people really like the Dynabass, others don't...

It's made in America. The rest is yours to figure out.

    Merry Christmas :).

1987 eh. That's super cool. I never realized something from soooo long ago could be in this good condition.

I wonder though, is there such thing as guitar polishing? I guess I'll have to Google that one.

What kind of strings could you recommend? I don't need anything too fancy, just something i could find at a local store.

Guitar polishing? Like polishing the guitar with a cloth?:D

And I would get Rotosounds. They last a reasonably long time and sound great. That, or get some Elixirs. Those babies last for months on end. I've had the same elixirs on my Ibanez for at least two years. And I practice almost every day. They're still going strong.:eyebrow:

Me thinks tw is just being facetious.
He tried two seperate topics on how much he hated the new bass his mom got him for Christmas; on how bass sucks and guitar is so much better and cooler; and what's his bass worth so he knows what to sell it for, etc etc.

Those topics didn't go over very well, as you can imagine.

Now he's sarcastically saying how much he loves it, while hinting at the forbidden question of "what's it worth" and attempting to poke fun at us for being soooo old.

For troll value, he's somewhat entertaining. ;)

I wish my Mom (or anybody else) would buy me a Dyna Bass... I've only got one and that's never enough.

Actually Mr. Papazita, you couldn't be more wrong. It isn't that I hated the bass, although at the time I acted like it because I was furious, it is that i was moreso jealous that my brother got a guitar and his getting the guitar was the reason why i got the bass.

Thank you for your much needed overanalysis.

I listened to some basslines on the net, and I figured that since my bro has a guitar, I could learn both bass and guitar.

And I'm not secretly hinting at what its worth, my dad won't let me sell it. He's pretty mad that my mom even considered letting me do that.

I wonder if this is how the Smothers Brothers started out?

My 4-yr-old got a Barbie-esque doll for Christmas; because 8-yr-old big sis got the same kind, she HATES it & threw it across the room. Even at 4 I consider this uancceptable behavior- not a huge deal, just a typical sibling issue that needs to be addressed.
    OP, how old are you?
