After a twenty five year break im back playing for a year or so now. I have no problem learning the songs the band is doing, but I cant get into the grove. I fell I need to learn some old suff to help me get into the grove a little better. can someone suggest some cd's with james jamerson or any bass player that helps inspire you when you need a little inspiration.

    thanks George.

  2. Check out Cake's cover of "I Will Survive". The bassist plays a killer groove on that song.

Also, try playing Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Mary had a little lamb" on bass, both the bass and guitar parts. It's a good goove as well...

Ruts are a pain, I hope the above helps a little as you try to climb out.

Check out the book "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" - it has a CD with tons of great Jamerson - it's a really inpiring book also.
