Uhhh, almost every leslie sim I can think of on the market (Neo Ventilator, Strymon Lex, DLS RotoSim, Boss RT-20) at ALL digital. So I think you're going to be disappointed if you stick to your "nothing digital please" mindset.

That video you linked to uses a uni-vibe, which is actually a type of phaser, and I don't think it sounds like a real leslie at all (even though that was it's original intent). All of the leslie sims I listed above are MUCH more realistic-sounding. I have tried the Boss and the DLS, and liked the Boss more. But the Neo and the Strymon are both supposed to be even better.

What was it about the Boss that you preferred over the DLS? I've been GASsing for the Lex, but the DLS is looking more intriguing every time I look at it.

It's hard to describe because it's so qualitative and subjective, but I just thought the Boss has a certain sweetness to the tone that the DLS lacked. I also liked that the Boss had multiple modes (3 different rotary models and a univibe mode) so it just made it a little more versatile. I didn't like the built-in dirt in either one, but that's ok because I always have a ton of dirt pedals on-hand.

As an aside, I've been GASing for the Lex too.

bigchiefbc i have had absolutely no luck with anything digital my entire playing career and have a serious disdain for them on many levels...

The Tech 21 Rotochoir is intriguing though it is not true bypass and is a digital/analog hybrid...I have also read it doesn't play well with the pog

thinking about ordering the Catalinbread Pareidolia and giving it a try...any thoughts

You're barking up the wrong tree because you're unwilling to give up an unfounded prejudice against digital gear. That's my thoughts. Ventilator or RT-20 are what you want.

unfounded?:scowl: been playing bass for roughly 30 years and have never met a piece of digital gear i have liked outside the studio...

I have owned many digital stomp boxes over the years and they have all left my board

The Pareidolia is an awesome pedal, but not for Hammond/Leslie tones. It's basically a weird tremolo sound that also has a faint phaser-y tone to it.

If you're totally closed off to digital gear, I don't think you're going to get a very convincing rotary sound, you really can't get that cool Doppler effect with pure analog. I'm not going to try to convince you about how far digital gear has come in even just the last 3 to 5 years.

The closest you're going to get probably is just to go ahead and get a univibe and have fun with it. It won't sound all that much like a rotary speaker, but it will still sound cool.

your probably right...is see MXR has just released the JHM3 70th anniversary univibe in a smaller enclosure...I might just go that route since i only want this particular sound for one part in a song...

going to see if i can find someone with the rotochoir in stock so i can at least give it a proper go...

UPDATE: tried the Tech 21 Rotochoir alone is sounded really good but it didn't play nice with some of my other pedals on my board..and i think the built in drive/grit sounds like crap (IMHO)

I did run across a used Soul Vibe at gui**** center for 59.99 and snagged it up...with the internal trim pot adjusted and a little OD it does a convincing job of sounding kind of like i wanted,,,so i guess I'm going to live with it for a bit and see if it sticks!
