I'm maybe in the wrong forum but i wonder, these kids who start out on double bass they have help lines on the fretboard, are the basses special built for that or can you make your own lines? What is the material?

Because you are not really trying to memorize a geographic location on the fingerboard, you are trying to train your brain and ear to have an "expectation of pitch" so that you EAR tells you where the note is. The wonderful thing about playing this instrument in many wasy is the expressiveness that you have in terms of darkening pitch or brightening pitch.

There are FAR too many players who insist that they are playing "in tune" because they are putting their finger in the correct "place" instead of LISTENING.
