Help me figure out what sort of covers this new band I joined should be doing

    Hey All,

Just joined a new band that has a couple CD's out of original music. I'll skip the shameless plug and keep the band name and everything out of this post.

The point is we want to add in a few covers to both fill up time and to get the crowd listening. I'm having a tough time suggesting covers, however, because I'm having a tough time placing this band in a genre.

So take a listen to a couple of our songs, and let me know what you think as far as genre, bands, or even specific songs that these remind you of.

    Thanks!

Sounds really good. My guess is your sound is indie rock... very polished. A bit Nickelback sounding with the vocals but you guys are better :p I would say any mainstream rock or indie rock covers would do.

    My 2 cents;

1st song hits me as the love child of 38 Special & The Smithereens:

2nd tune: Same as #1 but add a touch of Dave Mathews Band to the mix.

Genre = Adult Contemporary Pop maybe?

PS: liked both tunes by the way.

  4. Try:

    Police
    Smithereens
    Tonic
    Live
    Collective Soul

  5. Eddie Money-Take Me Home Tonight

    Awesome guys, keep it coming!

Agreatheight, surprisingly Police was the primary recommendation I got from my local friends.

Here's one more. This is the "faster" side of the band.

    Nice. I like the songs.

Incubus maybe? Shinedown? I hear Eddie Money too. ;) Huey Lewis? Seether? EDIT: Theory of a Dead Man.

Sounds like you have good backing vocals so anything would work.

I told the band we should call our next original "What would you say if I held on loosely to a girl like you?"

They found no humor in it......I was sad......

Not to go off topic, but Smithereens - Girl Like You is one of my all time favorite songs.

    LOL,
Since they didn't "get it", can I steal that :D

Absolutely, that and "Blues Before and After" and of course "Blood and Roses." That was the song that introduced me to them in the first place. I've always been a fan of the Smithereens, just can not get anyone to play any of their tunes with me. Real bummer :atoz:

Screw the covers, write more originals. I love your sound. It has an 80s guitar sound combined with a 90s style indie/pop feel with old school harmonies. So I'm thinking Rick Astley and Nickelback.:ninja:

Just kidding, off the top of my head I can see you guys doing stuff like the Smithereens, Bo Deans, Gin Blossoms, Del Amitri, Sister Hazel, Dishwalla, Poison, Arcade Fire, Fallout Boy, Fuel, Papa Roach, and The Killers.
