I'd like to find a program I can download for free that will allow me to turn audio from a CD or CDR into mp3s

I'm assuming you are a windows user other-wise iTunes is the Apple application that does it all.

For now you should go to
    www.versiontracker.com
and do a search for "mp3 converter" or "mp3 rip"
    "mp3 import"
    something along those lines.

there should be many free programs out there, or shareware, or demos.

The only program that even comes remotely close to iTunes is musicmatch jukebox, you should check it out.
as far as I know the free version allows .mp3 ripping.

here are some I found with a quick search:
    Free rip 2.4

    Musicmatch Jukebox basic(allows ripping)

    Neo Audio

    those are all freeware.

And, for the future, Apple is planning on releaseing iTunes for windows soon, at least that's that popular rumor suggests.

EAC + LAME (dl links and Tutorials)

best out! no junk files, no artifacts, just extremely optimized near CD sound.

And it's free... the EAC dude just wants a post card from your area... if you feel like it.
