Alright. I'm in Columbia, SC. I'd like to get some maple, mahogany, or swamp ash. It seems like none of the Lowes' or Home Depots' (all 123989849134 of them in the greater metro area) don't carry such hardwoods; I could get 'whitewood', oak, pine, poplar, and maybe cedar.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a good lumberyard (no one seems to answer emails or phone calls) that sells any sort of hardwoods (exotic woods a plus too) that are properly dried and possibly quartersawn.

    Thanks TB!

Do you have a woodcraft locally?

No woodcraft, otherwise I wouldn't even be asking.

I might just order from Woodcraft online... it's at least 30 minutes from my house to any of the lumberyards in the region. I might go looking in Charlotte when I'm there next Saturday though.

    EDIT:

There's a Woodcraft in Charlotte, so forget looking around here. I hope to find some nice maple, swamp ash, and a piece of <anything darker colored for a fingerboard>

Talk to Rhonda and Brad. Tell them Stephen from Louisiana referred you. They've been very helpful knowing that the lumber is for building guitars.

If you can't find anything locally I would suggest taking a trip to Atlanta. My personal favorite shop is Carlton Mcclendons Rare Woods and Veneer. It's a small family owned business and the owner Richard is very knowledgeable and has a huge selection of exotic wood and veneers. Atlanta Hardwoods also carries a fair amount of exotics and a really good selection of domestics.
