I recently picked up this bass relatively cheap with a broken trussrod I intend to replace. It was listed as a carvin LB75 when I bought it, but I am not convinced that's what it is or if it was made by carvin at all. All electronics and hardware are carvin, but the body is a bolt on painted like a neck thru. Hard to see in the pics, but it looks like a 2 piece body with a maple neck and ebony fretboard. Most similar to a B5 from what I can tell, but it does not have holes drilled through for the strings and I *think* the battery compartment is slightly different. It could be custom, or it could be a replica, or it could be a model I haven't discovered yet. Seems to be from the 90's based on when the seller bought it used. I'm not sure what the pickups are yet because I haven't pulled them, but the preamp is a 30-05053 Rev A board.
Ah! I had no idea that was even a thing - but looking at this: The Carvin Museum - BK4 Kit Player's Gallery I bet you're right
Carvin offered both bass and guitar kits. That appears to be one built from a kit. The kits were actually great quality. I built a Bolt S-type guitar from a kit years ago and still have it. It's really nice. Normally, if there is no Carvin headstock logo that is a giveaway that it was assembled from a kit.
Very nice! I think this one can come down to wood only too, since I feel its sort of awkward being painted in the style of the LB
That's a very interesting likely kit Carvin. Taking it to the wood is probably a good idea. Good luck with the project!
